Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Representative and Deputy Representative, with direct supervision of the UNFPA Maternal Health and Family Planning technical specialist, I worked closely with the Reproductive Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health (RMNCH) Strategy and Co-ordination Team (SCT) to support the management and implementation of a US$ 7 million RMNCH grant in Central province Zambia.The grant is implemented in 8 districts to support and overcome bottlenecks to accessing high quality RMNCH services include a) poor infrastructure; b) inadequate supplies and commodities; c) inadequately skilled and lowly motivated health workers; and d) geographical, financial and social cultural barriers. These catalytic funds are expected to speed up the meeting of national targets for MDG 4 and 5.My key responsibilities included:• Support the RMNCH country team in communication, management, and implementation of decisions made by the RMNCH trust Fund.• Facilitate the UN channeling agencies (UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF) and implementing partners on developing a consolidated annual work plan and reports.• In collaboration with the Ministry of Health RMNCH focal point to facilitate the functioning of the RMNCH country team, using existing H4+ co-ordination mechanism.• Serve as a focal point to the RMNCH country team on matters of grant management and reporting.• Work closely with Ministry of Health focal point, RMNCH project coordinator and RMNCH planning monitoring and evaluation officer in co-ordination of RMNCH supported activities. • Provide oversight and technical assistance in the implementation of project activities including the undertaking of health facility assessments, procurements; trainings of health service providers and provision of RMNCAH integrated outreach services.

As Director General of the National HIV/AIDS Council (NAC) I was responsible for the coordination advocacy and management of the National HIV/AIDS response in Zambia through the National Strategic Framework for HIV/AIDS developed for the period 2011- 2015.I was responsible for NAC’s vision, coordination, implementation and monitoring of a multi-sectoral, high impact cost-effective, national response to HIV/AIDS.The overall goal of NAC is to coordinate and advocate for effective and efficient implementation and monitoring of the national response to HIV and AIDS using a multi-sectoral approach and in line with the three ones and universal access principles.Outcomes• I coordinated and advocated for the development of the policy and legal environment necessary for effective implementation of the national multi-sectoral response• I also coordinated the multi sectoral response to HIV and AIDS at national and sub-national levels• I mobilised, and monitored the utilisation of resources for the multi-sectoral response to HIV and AIDS• I monitored the response by generating and providing timely relevant data and strategic information on the epidemic and the national response.I worked towards evaluation of Zambia’s PMTCT program and the development of innovative approaches to EMTCT and HIV treatment for children and adults, treatment as prevention and key populations. I have also worked on developing a sustainable resource mobilization strategy utilizing the involvement of the private sector in Zambia and approaches, which maximize the utilization of available HIV resources in Zambia to sustain activities that are currently funded by partners. I have worked at national and multi-sectoral levels with various actors including civil society. Using my extensive knowledge and skills in programme and financial management, strategic planning and supervision of HIV/AIDS activities, through national-level policy, programme development, implementation and evaluation.
