    The National Institute for Health Specialties (NIHS) was founded by a resolution of the United Arab Emirates Cabinet. NIHS is responsible for establishing an innovative postgraduate medical education system (e.g., accreditation and certification, fellowships, etc) for physicians, surgeons, dentists, and other healthcare professionals. The NIHS aims to enhance the health sector in the country by raising the level and quality of higher medical education. Policies, regulations, and accreditation requirements have been prepared with input from all major stakeholders, including the health regulators, program directors, and medical schools. The Institute’s work is based on specialized Scientific Committees, the Scientific Council, and the assessment and accreditation system. These steps and lead to establishing of the Emirati Board(s) of Medical Specialtie(s), representing an essential shift in the organization and harmonization of UAE health qualifications.
