    Kashtakari Panchayat and SWACH are two affiliated organizations. Kashtakari Panchayat is an organization that functions primarily to support waste pickers and their families within the informal economy recycling sector of Pune, maintaining this support in the forms of social welfare advocacy, and livelihood expansion and protection initiatives, striving to create an equitable, sustainable, and democratic society by facilitating the expansion of economic opportunities and providing social support. SWaCH Pune is India’s largest cooperative wholly owned by waste pickers. The cooperative aims to build a sustainable waste management system while protecting the livelihoods and dignity of waste pickers. During my internship in Pune at. SWaCH and Kashtakari Panchayat, I completed the following tasks.• Interviewed waste pickers and compiled domestic violence reports for the union highlighting the strength of community and the issues that plague India’s most vulnerable• Research initiated in field to publicize the perspective of waste workers and their contribution to India’s low eco-footprint/capita• Compiled Kashtakari Panchayat’s Annual Report document for 2022-23 year with considerable research• Strategized and conducted meetings with outside vendors to create and write Kashtakari Panchayat’s 2024 website• Tagged and meticulously organized over 30,000 old photos for SWaCH Cooperative

    Dr. Fonna Forman, esteemed and highly regarded Political Science UCSD professor, launched the Earthlab Chollas Park Initiative Center in the last few years, and now runs an after school educational program with neighboring schools to teach global majority students(of color) primary of Mexican descent and low income, about causes of climate impact with relation poverty and racial injustice, and connect this concept to emotional intelligence and a better understanding of themselves with regards to empathy, perception, and responsibility, divided within chapters of environment, self, and others. In this position of field intern/teacher, I completed the following.• Instructed, evaluated, and motivated students on environment-based projects in the Earthlab• Assisted Field Supervisor with miscellaneous tasks, planning of activities, and organization of information for UCSD ReConnect's pilot program at Chollas Creek• Handled and answered all student inquiries and concerns regarding personal issues at the Station where we personally contributed to creation of hands on activities and led activities in pairs• Mentorship of middle school children, experience with topics such as race, queerness,sexual abuse, and suicide.
