    Connect delivers administration services to life assurance companies throughout Africa. Their business is centred on the implementation of the Exergy policy management system, developed by sister company Rubix Digital Solutions (formerly SilverBridge Software Solutions). They also provide clients with technical software and network infrastructure support, and business intelligence services.As PIC, I was tasked with assurance product and process rules configuration, software support, data preparation, data manipulation, data processing, and report generation. I made extensive use of MS SQL Server and VB.net, as well as a number of SilverBridge’s proprietary tools.I developed system algorithms based on policy specifications, such as cover and premium calculations, term restrictions, age restrictions, loading factors, claim amounts, claim waiting periods, and reassurance and commission distribution. I also implemented the process rules for events including issuing of new business, contract cancelation or expiry, billing, receipt and reversal of premiums, release of commission and reassurance payments, payment runs, and the filing of claims.I investigated, identified, classified and resolved system defects. I wrote T-SQL procedures to manipulate and extract data (to be presented in reports, or used in further processes), and to alter database structures. I reviewed and tested the work of colleagues. I prepared documentation relating to system applications and training. I was involved in the training and supervision of junior team members.

    I served as a member of a multidisciplinary team of financial advisors within the Southern African affiliate of the largest professional services organisation in the world.     The actuarial division of ABSA Bank Limited, the largest consumer bank in South Africa, manages a number of high profile retirement funds. I was employed, on a five-month contract, as an administrator of a pension fund associated with the governments of nearly all the 283 municipalities in the country. I was mainly responsible for the extraction of biographical and financial data, auditing of fund contribution schedules, construction of contribution calculation sheets, consolidation of pension fund member information and assisting with the compilation of benefit statements and error reports. To these ends, there was a considerable amount of correspondence between myself and municipal officials.
