    Click to edit position descriptionI am responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, and inspection of main and auxiliary machinery as propulsion maritime engines, specially 2 strokes low speed, diesel generators, hydraulic systems, Dinamic Position Thruster systems; Power Generation and supply systems; Control and Monitoring Automated systems; Supervision in control rooms; Fuel Oil transfering and bunkering; Steam Generators; Fresh Water Generators; General pumps; Air Compressors; Ballast control systems and electrical, mechanical, and safety equipment under jurisdiction.Determines proper and effective repairs, monitoring maintenance and report defects that may affect ship's performance to Master. Advises Master of matters relating to machinery usage and overall economy of operation. Reports failures that affect science operations to Port Office. Provide documentation and reports to Classification Societies; Execute tests and surveys followed by authorities representants. Make projects to improving, optimize operations or to up grade systems.Assign and supervise work of engine department personnel, including fair allocation of leave and working hours, and proper scheduling of vacations. Keep Master informed of department's condition, and conduct and reliability of engine personnel. Provide proper training and uprising of department crew. Ordering, receiving and maintain proper inventory of spare parts and supplies. Ensures economy of fuel and consumable supplies, and monitoring fuel and water daily.Sets engine room watches, specifies duties, and ensures a properly maintained watch.Performs other duties as required.
