Manager, China Engineering: Challenge: Establish an engineering support center in Shanghai, China. Action: Researched labor rates, technical capabilities, communication, and data transfer. Launched a hiring program for the facility. Visited China and hired a core group of engineers. Hired a liaison who was fluent in Mandarin and English. Conducted parallel paths between US and Chinese engineering, using US engineers to validate Chinese work. Established a set of detailed, automated metrics for measuring progress and flagging issues. Result: Transferred 30% of US engineering processes, all 2D print generation and cost analysis 6 months ahead of schedule.Program Manager, General Motors, 5 product lines: Challenge: Manage the electrical distribution system, and full vehicle wiring for five different platforms, all with multiple model years, in different stages of development.Action: Developed a detailed schedule for each platform and model year. Held gate reviews prior to significant milestones. Maintained APQP and conducted Launch Readiness Reviews at manufacturing facilities. Provided daily internal and external support for difficult commercial and engineering issues. Conducted weekly Gate Reviews with three different General Motors Chief Engineers Reviewed every engineering and manufacturing change to optimize the cost and increase profitability. Result: Launched each platform on time and within budget for every model year without a single stop ship or significant engineering issue.Manager, Ford System Engineering: Challenge: Manage the design and all buildable combinations of the electrical architecture for three different platforms all with multiple model years. Program Manager, Ford Motor Company, three product lines: Challenge: Recover a significant per vehicle customer cost increase. Used this process to organize and document changes previously incorporated by system. This allowed each system to be priced individually. Each system cost was then negotiated with the customer to determine financial responsibility. Result: Recovered 95% of the estimated customer cost increase.Electrical Engineering Design Manager: Challenge: Redesign and package the electrical distribution system and full vehicle wiring for the 2005 model year while adhering to customer design standards, program milestones and launch requirements. Action: Reorganized the engineering team, shifting resources to the 2005 model year. Result: Maintained engineering support and eliminated the need to hire additional resources.Electrical Engineering Senior Design Supervisor: Challenge: Maintain wire harness part design and release (WERS) responsibilities and provide overall engineering support for the entire design team. Action: Established weekly design reviews. Result: All engineering issues were resolved within customer expectations.
