Inorganics Laboratory Supervisor & Deputy Microbiology Director
-
Aug 2017 - Jun 2018
Supervisory position responsible for laboratory technicians and data entry/customer report generation working in conjunction with the advisement of Inorganics Laboratory Manager. Supervised four laboratory technicians to guide and advise their work in regards to water testing (inorganic chemistry and microbiological) procedures along with metals testing procedures including hot block digestion. Assisted laboratory manager in assuring high lab tech sample throughput without loss of result accuracy due to reinforcement of EPA standard operating procedures. Various data entry skills into a LIMS system that generated customer reports pertaining to water quality results for various tests; Some of which included radon (both air and water), turbidity, total residual chlorine, pH, various EPA 200.8 and 200.7 metals, conductivity, color, odor, sediment, ion chromatography (chloride, fluoride, nitrate, nitrite, ortho-phosphate), tannins and lignins, total coliform bacteria, HPC Simplate, MPN Quanti-tray and more. Performed Quality Assurance testing for all equipment used in all Microbiology procedures when Quality Assurance Officer and usual Microbiology Director was unable to do so, and kept records of all results for both state and internal auditing.

Metals Analyst
-
Sep 2015 - Aug 2016
Metals specific analyst running water samples via EPA Methods 200.8 and 200.7 with an Agilient Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometer and a Thermo ICP. Responsible for analyzing and recording data for 20 high range elements including Beryllium, Sodium, Magnesium, Aluminum, Potassium, Calcium, Vanadium, Chromium, Manganese, Iron, Cobalt, Nickel, Copper, Zinc, Arsenic, Molybdenum, Cadmium, Barium, Lead, and Uranium. Also able to analyze for four lower range elements including Silver, Thallium, Selenium, and Antimony. And finally, the instrument is also able to analyze samples for Mercury as well. Daily tasks include instrumentation maintenance and cleaning, pH screening in order to determine if samples are acidic enough to be run on the instrument, turbidity screening samples in order to determine digestion procedures, digesting turbid samples, creation of calibration standards and reagents used therein, preparation of acids (Nitric and Hydrochloric) used in preservation and matrix alignment of samples, preparation of samples and acidification of samples not below pH value of 2, creating matrix spikes and diluting samples over calibration, recording data output, and assisting in reporting output data via quality control documenting.

Inorganics Chemist and Microbiologist/Laboratory Technician I
-
Oct 2014 - Sep 2015
Responsible for daily operations of Inorganics and Microbiological water testing at Granite State Analytical, LLC, a NELAC accredited/certified laboratory. Daily inorganics testing includes, but is not limited to; pH, Color, Odor, Sediment, Conductivity, Dionex Ion Chromatograph analysis (including Fluoride, Chloride, Nitrite, Nitrate, Sulfate, and Ortho-Phosphates), Alkalinity via manual titration, Total Residual Chlorine, Hydrogen Sulfide titration, Tannins & Lignins detection, Chemical Oxygen Demand, and Radon testing (both Air and Water scintillation methods). Responsible for the care, calibration, and general upkeep of the instruments pertaining to the above testing methods, as well as the creation of standards and quality control reagents used in these methods. Daily Microbiological testing includes; Standard total coliform and E. coli presence/absence testing via various media such as Colilert, Colilert-18, and Colisure. MPN testing via the use of both Quanti-tray and HPC SIM Plate procedures. Media broth is created routinely for HPC SIM Plate testing. Responsible for record keeping regarding the environment of our incubating samples, assuring they are in compliance with quality control standards. All microbiological testing is performed with the utmost importance placed upon aseptic technique in order to reduce analyst error.Entry level training pertaining to metals analysis via Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometry is in progress. Currently able to analyze water samples via EPA method 200.8 for High Range metals such as Arsenic, Copper, Lead, Uranium, Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Iron, etc. Creation of Nitric acid and Gold mixtures, as well as preservation of samples via diluted Nitric acid is a routine task.

Assisted the laboratory at the Manchester Water Works Water Treatment Plant in order to further my professional knowledge of the drinking water industry and laboratory procedures. Standard tasks performed included creation of microbiological media, creation of Quanti-Tray sealed packages and analysis of said Quanti-Tray packages, sterilization of media and laboratory equipment through the operation of the autoclave, set up of Quality Control procedures preceding daily testing for accurate data, employing grab sampling techniques, daily testing of water samples collected myself from positions throughout the treatment plant as well as statistical analysis conducted on samples taken from positions in the MWW's city distribution system and raw water shed, alkalinity titration and analysis, phosphate analysis, and data entry. Also assisted in an annual water shed survey of Lake Massabesic to discover the watershed's current statistics to keep record of yearly changes.
