Mr. Guy was responsible for managing the major projects of the Engineering Directorate. He managed 1) developing the docking system, and 2) re-entry parachute system for the spacecrafts to be used in the future exploration of space; as well as, 3) providing the Systems Engineering and SE&I leadership for the Constellation Space Flight Program. In addition, he was responsible for developing and providing to NASA's then-current flight programs -- Shuttle and Station -- equipment for maintaing the health and vigor of the on-orbit crews. In addition, his organization provided the shuttle wing-impact sensors for each flight, and supported the real-time assessment of potential Shuttle impact by debris for each mission..

Mr. Guy was responsible for the robotic and AI endeavors of JSC. His organization provided technical expertise and support for flight programs. This included the in-space robotic manipulators for the nations spaceflight projects – Shuttle and Station. He was also responsible for technology advancement in the robotic domain: e.g., 1) the development of technology for a robotic “flying eye” for on-orbit inspection; 2) an anthropomorphic robot as an astronaut “surrogate”; and 3) a robotic “rover” for astronaut exploration of a planetary surface. In addition, 1) he managed the largest real-time, engineering simulation facility at JSC (used for comprehensive technical studies and astronaut training for Shuttle,Station, and Orion); 2) the EVA/Robotic Virtual Reality Lab (also used for engineering studies and astronaut training); 3) and the Shuttle's and Station's full-scale Robotic Manipulators used for astronaut training..

Mr. Guy was responsible for 1) astronaut IV pressure suits, EVA spacesuits/backpacks, IV and EV tools, and crew EVA jet packs; as well as, 2) spacecraft life support, thermal control, and hygiene equipment; In addition, he managed the safe operation of the only human-rated vacuum and thermal/vacuum test facilities in NASA (including multiple test chambers in the Crew Systems Labs in Bldg 7, as well as, the two very large T/V test chambers in the SESL facility in Bldg 32 at JSC). Both engineering tests and astronaut training were conducted in these facilities.
