Working as a referee and linesman for Sackville Minor Hockey I progressed from timekeeper up to Referee. Through the process I officiated players from ages 5-21 and was able to perform at a level of great skill, refereeing all levels of Rep Hockey. As a referee and linesman you officiate/mediate the game and ensure that the rules are followed. Managing and controlling players, fans and coaches of all ages can be extremely challenging especially when you are a younger adult. I believe that this was once of the biggest challenges of my life as the responsibility is so great. Referees are extremely professional and it is one of the most empowering jobs to undertake. Some of the traits that I learned were:-Professionalism-Confidence -Self-assurance-Decisiveness-Leadership-Emotional ControlSome of the skills that were learned were:-Team Building-Officiating-Physical Endurance-First Aid-Knowledge of Hockey-Time Management-Customer Service-People Skills-How to deal with confrontational-Problem Solving
