For 21 years, I coordinated and directed all highway surface data collection and the operations of the Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN), the data collection vehicle for the Maine Department of Transportation. This includes the scheduling of all testing, supervision of the ARAN Driver, responsibility for the care, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting during operation of the ARAN. Having been responsible for the 4 Automatic Road Analyzers the department has owned, the most recent is a highly technological vehicle purchased in July 2015 at a cost of $1.2 million. It collects complex highway surface data, GPS location, and HD imagery for our customers within the department such as, Design, Construction, Research, Right-of-way, Highway Maintenance, and its main customer Highway Management. The collected data directly supports a $155 million biennial program for over 9000 miles of highways. In the 20 years, our safety record is impeccable, without a single incident. My previous responsibilities for 3 years were to perform detailed review of plans, blueprints and proposal books for all Department out-to-bid construction contracts. I was to ensure all required documents were included before having them printed, and I assisted in setup and preparation of project estimates for the Contracts Section of the Design Division. I was the first to help build and maintain the Contracts Section Internet home page. My first 3 years in the Dept. I had responsibilities as a Bridge Inspector for the Construction Division for 3 construction seasons. Responsibilities included; inspecting concrete, field welding, and off site fabrication ensuring conformance with MDOT requirements and specifications. Also, I assisted Civil Engineers in the inspection of bridge deck rehabilitations, replacements and scheduled biannual bridge safety inspections.

I performed the duties of an Aviation Ordnance Munitions Technician and CDI (Collateral Duty Inspector). Working with ordnance and mechanical gear for the first 2 years of my service, I had become knowledgeable enough to be promoted to CDI and work for Quality Assurance. A CDI has the responsibility for inspecting all ordnance and gear to ensure it is in accordance with QA/QC and safety instructions and directives. Ordnance and its gear must be inspected by a CDI before it is authorized for use. I had many licenses (now expired) and many hours operating and maintaining a variety of Heavy equipment such as Forklifts up to 10,000 lbs. capacity, the 5-ton troop carrier, Humvee, 7-ton crane and the RTCH cargo handler 22-ton capacity for handling shipping containers. I performed many other various tasks typically expected of a U.S. Marine. I’m a Veteran of the Persian Gulf War, with an Honorable Discharge.
