Executive Director

Aug 1998 - Oct 2010
While managing the administrative and program functions of real estate development, micro-lending, workforce development, and small business education & training; I worked with the development team to develop neighborhoods and help hundreds of small businesses become successful. A couple of the most exciting developments were the Midtown Exchange Building and the Mercado Central. When both projects began to fail my team stepped in to bring them back to life.

I provided leadership and management of counseling staff, emergency/transitional housing, and food services to a indigent population. This was one of the most rewarding but frustrating jobs I ever had. We did so much to help people better their lives, but there was so much more to do. I think the most important accomplishment we made was to recognize the causes of homelessness so many suffered from and the need for mental health and chemical dependency counseling through the Veterans Administration. Both of which we worked hard to resolve.

I worked in a variety of positions beginning with advertising sales and ending as Director of Cable TV Operations. As a cable TV operator I had a great time as general manager of the local access television and its programming. When we brought in Satellite Dishes we were the first in the area and it was quite a change over from the old microwave system. Those early years were full of mergers and acquisitions. I know we were sold three times during my time at NE Minnesota Cable TV.

I always wanted to be a Wall Street Investment banker. When I started at IDS selling annuities and retirement plans my dream was to work as an underwriter at a major investment house. My big break came when Peter Snevey hired me at Paine, Webber, Jackson Curtis. I became licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin and registered on the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, American Stock Exchange, and with the Chicago Board of Trade. I thought I was on my way but two years into developing accounts the market took one of its biggest crashes. Over 40,000 account representatives were let go and I was one of them.
