I was brought on board to build and grow the tenant representation team of Cushman & Wakefield in 2009. The team grew from 2 operatives in 2009 to the third largest tenant representation team in Australia by 2014. Off the back of this growth in tenant representation, new offices were opened in Brisbane and Melbourne in 2012. Revenue growth was greater than the older established divisions and the team's cohesion and focus was the envy of the industry. I was a member of the APAC Tenant Advisory Group, the driver for quadrupling the flow of broker-led business from the USA to Australia, continuously in contact with regional and global business drivers and individuals, and without inhibitions gave the time, energy and enthusiasm required to see team members maximise their professional growth and success. It was a rewarding and great learning experience.

Realising that setting up a tenant advisory business within a large landlord based commercial real estate firm in the early 2000's was too early, I departed Knight Frank and established my own boutique tenant advisory firm in 2002. Within months, local and international clients adopted my independent tenant representation model and by 2007-2008 my business was one of the busiest independent tenant representation firms in the country. My client list included small and large corporations including Commonwealth Bank of Australia, HSBC Bank, Dresdner bank, ING Bank, Alcatel-Lucent, GHD, Credit Agricole - to name a few. Services included tenant representation and negotiation, general corporate property consulting and advisory, sales acquistion, and lease disposal. By 2003 I was covering the Australian national market. By keeping it honest, focussing on the clients' needs and wants, and representing ONLY the tenants' interests and not that of the landlord, repeat and referral business accounted for the majority of the group's business. We were then and still are now the reliable and trusted advisor. We were and still are truly independent.

In late 1993 I returned from the US having worked for Knowlton realty in Toronto (1989) and San Francisco (1990-1993). I joined the Knight Frank office leasing team. In 1994 I received the coveted HAO Gorman award for excellence and performance. In August 1997 I was made State Director Office Leasing for NSW, responsible for three (3) office leasing teams in Sydney CBD, North Sydney and Parramatta. By 1999-2000 this team became one of the top listed teams in the Sydney metropolitan area. The team environment was the envy of much of the industry. Having reached a peak in office leasing and requiring a change I established the Tenant Representation division in 2000. As much as it was too early for this type of business in a landlord focussed industry, clients saw the benefit of this small arm prepared to advise tenants. By mid 2001 the team was working on countless engagements at any one time and clients included Horwath, Alcatel, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Credit Agricole amongst many others. The focus was national and I was an integral part of the Knight Frank Global CRE Team. These experiences honed my skills immensely. For a future independent tenant advisor and negotiator the experience was priceless as I had now worked in the upper echelons of both sides of the leasing equation. It meant that at this early age I had a excellent knowledge of how BOTH sides thought in negotiations - a rare experience for most operatives in the Australian commercial real estate market.

In 1986 I joined the JLL Sydney CBD office leasing team as a fully operational leasing agent. In 1987 I set out to travel around the world and several months later found myself as the crew leader of a reconnaissance team searching for gold in Western Australia's outback working for the Western Mining Exploration Division. I finished in 1988 and headed overseas. In 1989 I began working in Commercial real estate in Toronto with Knowlton Realty working with some of the most influential and astute real estate practitioners in the Canadian real estate market at that time and even today. In 1990 I moved to San Francisco and shortly thereafter re-joined Knowlton Realty where I worked for another 3 years in the commercial real estate market until I returned to Sydney in late 1993.
