Managed Data Group (below) became Restaurant Sciences in October 2010. Restaurant Sciences was a provider of syndicated data and insights on food and beverage consumption in restaurants, bars, nightclubs and other foodservice establishments. We delivered market share, market basket, competitive analysis, pricing, promotional, trend, segmentation and custom analytics to food and beverage manufacturers and distributors, as well as the broader industry they serve. Data was unified nightly from tens of thousands of restaurants into one single database. We standardized hundreds of millions of items by using a proprietary tool to code the restaurants to the appropriate industry category, assign numerous attributes to the item-level data and match disparate menu items to the products suppliers sell in restaurants & bars. Operators were offered free services via a restaurant-facing product, ThriveSpot, in exchange for POS data from independent restaurants. Members enjoyed free services like mobile websites, online menu management, and comparative reporting for allowing us to pool their anonymous product data with other member restaurants. Restaurant Sciences was acquired by its competitor, Guest Metrics, in February 2014 and operations were ceased.
