Lead mechanical design engineer for tidal stream turbines. I have been closely involved in the successful design and deployment of 2 tidal stream turbines, generating over 1.5 GWhrs to the grid. I have been the Lead Engineer for a number of subsystems on these turbines, responsible for the technical design and compliance to requirements, as well as budget planning, resource management, programme planning and work package integration with other subsystems. I have build excellent working relationships with many suppliers, Universities, Academic Institutions and certification bodies in order to be able to deliver compliant Areas of expertise include: composites blades, main and planetary gearboxes, rolling element and plain bearings, electric motor control, corrosion, lubrication, instrumentation, metal fabrication, steel structures, hydraulics, actuators, manufacturing, build and test.

I was the manufactiring engineer responsible for the technical and quality aspects of the machining process for 2 nozzle guide vanes. My day to day activities included dealing with arising quality issues and non-conformance, whilst implementing longer term process improvement.I gained a deep understaninding of all the machining processes involved, including brazing, grinding, milling, EDM, thermal barrier coatings, laser drilling, inspection, NDT, as well as a good working knowledge of investment casting.I gained Six Sigma Green Belt Accreditation through 2 process improvement projects:- EJ200 NGV EDM film cooling hole scrap reduction - massive scrap reduction through EDM process improvement, tooling redesign and shop floor staff involvement, - TP400 mount rail deflection due to grinding processes. Elimination of deflection through the re-design of tooling, grinding process parameters and heat treatment
