Responsibilities as a Family Advocate include establishing strong connections with a caseload of 60 preschool families to identify their unique strengths and skills. In this position, I provide solution focused strategies and person-centered approaches to families and students’ specific needs. I utilize psychoeducation strategies to strengthen student and families understanding of topics such as social and emotional learning, family dynamics, academic achievement, diversity, future career and community opportunity, and healthy life skills. Family advocates also act as a family and student liaison providing connections to school and community resources. Additionally, on a daily basis, I coordinate with teachers and school leaders to advocate for student and families well being.Maintaining confidentiality and detailed progress notes is required while corresponding with families and students. I am also securing and reviewing student portfolios, reports, and assessments in regards to academic and personal achievement. To help families meet program health requirements, I advise and create plans with families to remain up-to-date for their child's necessary medical visits such as annual physical examinations, immunization shots, and allergy action plans.Connecting with families regarding their child’s attendance or absence on a daily basis as per the school requirements is also necessary. I also assist enrollment coordinators with student placement into classrooms for the following school year. In leadership roles, I have experience in supervising the after school program team in regards to classroom daily routines and behavior management. Lastly, I am completing office duties such as making and answering phone calls, working copy machines, creating spreadsheets and schedules, and filing documents in appropriate folders. Therefore, I am familiar with utilizing computer technologies such as Macs, Windows, Google Applications, and Microsoft Office when applicable.
