    My young son, Nikolai, at the age of 12, was diagnosed with a rare Leukemia, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, which later transformed to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). I resigned from work as social worker in case management so that I could provide full-time care as he battled cancer and fought to survive a bone marrow transplant. It was a time of faith and perseverance. Nikolai is now alive and well and recently celebrated his 21st birthday.
