Consumer litigator representing plaintiffs in cases of debt collection harassment, false credit reporting, identity theft, and security breach. Have brought and resolved claims on behalf of clients against numerous debt collectors, creditors, mortgage servicers, and credit bureaus. Won (with co-counsel) North Carolina's first federal jury verdict in a Fair Debt Collection Practices case.Representative Opinions:--Russell v. Absolute Collection Servs., 2014 U.S. App. LEXIS 15718 (4th Cir. N.C. Aug. 15, 2014) (affirming jury verdict against debt collector; FDCPA does not require that a consumer dispute a debt in writing prior to filing claims under 15 U.S.C.S. § 1692e)--Staton v. North State Acceptance, LLC, 2013 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 105599 (M.D.N.C. July 29, 2013) (striking defendant furnisher's affirmative defenses to plaintiff consumer's Fair Credit Reporting Act claims).--Owens v. Dixie Motor Co., 2013 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 97046 (E.D.N.C. July 11, 2013) (holding consumer victim of a security breach properly pled claims against an auto dealer and its surety).--Johnson v. Bullhead Investments, LLC, 2010 WL 118274, M.D.N.C., January 11, 2010 (NO. 1:09CV639) (holding that third-party non-debtor had standing to sue under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act where she reasonably believed she could be held liable for a debt that was not hers).
