In this position I liaised with brokers to deliver responses to claim and with service providers such as loss adjusters, lawyers and special investigators who assisted with investigation and interpretation of policy response. Interaction with third party insurers required finely tuned negotiation skills and solid understanding of legal liabilities and insurance law. I gained an appreciation for the special insurer-broker relationships and in turn those of broker-client. Whilst I was responsible to make a considered and informed decision on a claim based on policy wording and knowledge of the industry, with the delicate communications requried regarding claims response, I was able to continue to hone my conflict resolution skills to a deep level within this position.

      This was my first role within the insurance industry and this opportunity led on to the further opportunity to develop as a claims handler. This role was primarily a support role helping to service the wider claims team as they managed the claims process.I gained valuable experience in reviewing policy wordings, learning key liability insurance concepts and terminology. I was privileged to be working with some very seasoned and experienced colleagues that helped me get off to a positive start with some wise guidance on tap as I grew my knowledge base and experience levels.I soon learned that liability insurance requires a level of specialisation that makes it somewhat unique in the insurance world. As the focus is almost exclusively on commercial insurance, there is huge variety in the types of claims handled as the businesses worked with varied so widely. With the huge range of claims handled, I gained a clear understanding of the critical role we played in allowing businesses to provide their services at claims time with minimised interruption and reduced stress.
