Project work includes news and feature articles; development, writing and/or editing of marketing and public relations material, Web content, etc.I also provide publishing services that include concept development, implementation, project management & oversight of writers and designers, creative funding solutions, printing & distribution services. In some cases I may take on the risk of the cost of producing the publication in return for the reward of the profit.

Launched Coast River Business Journal because of identified gap in the marketplace. As sole-owner, developed all aspects of this monthly regional publication including format, content, advertising sales strategy and pricing and distribution methodology. Day-to-day roles included staff management, development and directing story-line up; editing all copy, and reporting and writing news stories as needed. Also wrote an editorial each month on a timely business-related subject.Managed the advertising sales staff and served as "quality control" for all aspects of the publication.As Publisher and owner, served as the face of Coast River Business Journal to the community; developed the on-going strategy for the publication, and was responsible for the financial health of the company. Under my ownership, and with the help of an outstanding staff, Coast River Business Journal grew to a 48-page plus tabloid-size newspaper with a 10,000 copy print run.Sold Coast River Business Journal to Country Media, a multi-newspaper consortium, in January 2011.

Started in an organizational development/sales consulting role after departing GTE. Initial work was specific to the telecommunications industry. Success at GTE was catalyst for contract work for several national and regional telephone companies to assist in the implementation of the unique sales team/account management approach developed while a Regional Sales Manager at GTE. Clients included NYNEX, Southwestern Bell, Bell South, Frontier, Tie, Amertech, Sprint/United and Northern Telecom.Later contract work, largely provided in Astoria, Oregon, included Community Liaison for Clatsop County on the SB622 telecommunications project (3 -year contract); public relations/communications work for the Port of Astoria, (5-years) Community Liaison for Calpine Corp., Marketing & Operations Management for the Lewis & Clark Explorer Train, and marketing/communications related work for community groups including the Liberty Theater.

Started working for GTE as a telecommunications equipment sales representative; after a year was promoted to Regional Sales Manager, chartered with starting a new sales organization.Directive was simply to "sell more" to small business customers in a five-state region, so designed a unique team sales concept, hired a team, and experienced significant sales growth in territory from less than $1 million to over $6 million three years later.This sales organizational structure was implemented nationally by GTE. In 1990 received the National Sales Manager of the Year award for success of this project.
