    I went to Boot Camp at Parris Island South Carolina, trained as a combat rifleman and returned to my reserve unit after duty as a military policeman. I was in the weapons platoon rising to the post of Gunner in the mortar section. I attended NBC (nuclear biological chemical) warfare school and diesel mechanic school during my summer duty. I was offered the rank of sergeant just before my 6 year duty ended and refused exiting as a corporal. It is one of the very few regrets I have in life.
