    Since I am regularly asked for advice on buying investment pieces and assembling art collections, we launched the art advisory service at Sanlam Private Wealth in 2010. It’s the first of its kind in South Africa and assists investors in purchasing works of art that are likely to yield investment returns, as well as in building art collections as part of an overall portfolio. In addition to the personal service we offer clients, we provide due diligence assessment on individual items, and conduct evaluations. This service is offered to individuals, businesses and galleries aiming to grow in the art market.

  Sanlam

  • Curator of the Sanlam Art Collection

    As the curator of the Sanlam Art Collection, I’m responsible for Sanlam’s art exhibitions at the Sanlam Art Gallery in Bellville and the Sanlam Art Lounge in Sandton, and all artworks on display in Sanlam subsidiaries across South Africa. I convene the biannual Sanlam Portrait Award. I’m also responsible for acquisitions for the Sanlam Art Collection, which now comprises an impressive overview of South African art dating from the late 19th century to the present.As an art historian, I regularly publish articles on corporate collecting, and catalogues featuring the Sanlam Art Collection and selected artists.

    This is the first job that really groomed me for the bigger canvas of my career. As a curator in this national museum in Bloemfontein, my responsibilities were technical and administrative. I managed the collection care, exhibition, acquisitions and public programmes of the Museum. This included managing funding and expanding infrastructure of the museum.
