    Joined Solid Energy’s New Development group as Technical Manager - Lignite Conversion. Led the team tasked with implementing existing and developing new and innovative technologies for the utilisation of Solid Energy’s lignite deposits in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. Before being disbanded, the team had reviewed and evaluated multiple lignite upgrading opportunities. Developed and quantified the technical and economic viability of a coal to fertiliser plant and associated lignite mine to an accuracy of + 30%. Implemented a new lignite briquetting technology, culminating with the successful commissioning of the briquetting demonstration plant in Southland.

    Before leaving South Africa, I had actively contributed to the development of Sasol’s Gas and Coal to Liquids process, overseen the development of proprietary, and testing of commercially available, heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts, supported Sasol’s commercial catalyst manufacturing operations and participated in developing and commercialising Sasol’s detergent alcohol process.
