I am currently working at Zoetis as a postdoctoral associate, and I design and implement vaccine efficacy trials and add to the broader research efforts of the Global Biologics Swine group. My work combines both lab work and coordination and collaboration with different colleagues from various teams to move forward the appropriate research activities. I am designing key experiments to evaluate different vaccine formulations in its ability to elicit broad spectrum protection against variants of the target pathogen. My role requires an understanding of vaccine development, antigen selection and design, microbiology, immunology, and animal infectious diseases and the use of many in vitro, in vivo, and in silico techniques to select and evaluate potential vaccine candidates. I am responsible for collaborating with different teams within Zoetis and externally at the University of Calgary to move the project ahead, both logistically and through facilitating research activities. I have worked with various colleagues to write animal user protocols, study protocols, coordinate and schedule animal studies, and coordinate import permits and shipping research materials into Zoetis. I have also been working with upstream and downstream processing to devise strategies for scaling up antigen production while working with analytics to troubleshoot research activities.

Throughout my time as a doctoral student and a postdoctoral associate at the University of Calgary, I accumulated broad expertise in topics and lab techniques related to microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases, vaccine development, structural biology, and protein bioinformatics while I designed and evaluated vaccines against respiratory bacterial pathogens causing disease in pigs. I developed potential vaccine candidates and evaluated these vaccines in existing animal models for studying infection, and in models I have developed, to determine efficacy. In addition to designing and implementing experiments, analyzing and recording results, and devising strategies to optimize and troubleshoot, I authored numerous publications of my work, presented at international conferences through talks and posters, and collaborated with other researchers to design vaccines for their pathogens of choice.
