JAAJ is consulting firm with a focus on research and training. As a Social and Environmental Safeguards Consultant for IGAD and AfDB, I was entrusted with conducting a feasibility study and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for a program aimed at building resilience for food and nutrition security in the Horn of Africa. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, including consulting experts from AfDB, IGAD, and national stakeholders, I assessed the economic, financial, environmental, and social impacts of the program. In this role, I honed my skills in conducting feasibility studies, ESIA, economic and financial analysis, environmental and social impact assessments, as well as participatory planning and community consultation. In a separate consultancy role for the Horn Economic and Social Policy Institute, I assessed the status of Warehouse Receipt Systems (WRS) in Ethiopia. This involved conducting a desk review of major WRS in the region, conducting on-site assessments of major ECX Warehouse Systems in Ethiopia, and evaluating alternative WRS developed by ATA and USAID. As a result, I produced a comprehensive report that outlined the current challenges and opportunities surrounding WRS in Ethiopia, while also providing modalities to scale up WRS in grain markets. Additionally, I shared Ethiopia's WRS experience with IGAD member states. Moreover, I worked as a consultant for the UK Department for International Development (DFID), conducting an assessment of the energy industry in Ethiopia. This involved analyzing the entities, stakeholders, institutions, and initiatives involved in the Ethiopian energy sector. Through this mapping exercise, I evaluated the energy mix in Ethiopia, including the installed capacity of renewable sources, fossil fuels, and hydroelectric power.

I also played a key role in documenting best practices in agricultural innovation, producing technical reports, participatory rural appraisal (PRA) reports, and comprehensive manuals to disseminate knowledge.Additionally, I conducted action research at farmers' fields and farmers' field schools (FTC), gathering valuable insights and data to assess the drivers for successful upscaling of innovations. Throughout these efforts, I honed my skills in capacity building, documenting and managing knowledge, as well as leading a diverse team. Moreover, I served as the focal person for MonQI, a software platform dedicated to managing agricultural knowledge, further enhancing my expertise in utilizing digital tools for efficient information management. As a testament to my leadership capabilities, I led the Cascape research team and served as the project's communication and knowledge management focal person.

Assosa
During my tenure as a socio-economic researcher at the Assosa Research Center of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR), I played a crucial role in advancing agricultural development in the Benishangul Gumuz region. One of my primary responsibilities was providing capacity building for SMS (Subject Matter Specialists) and DA (Development Agents), ensuring they were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to support farmers effectively.I successfully demonstrated and scaled up various agricultural technologies in the region, contributing to the widespread adoption of these practices. Notably, I focused on the development of the value chain for soybean, which resulted in it becoming a major crop in the area and a key supplier for the Ethiopian oil industry. To assess the impact of these technologies, I conducted comprehensive socio-economic surveys and technology impact assessments, generating valuable insights for future decision-making.In addition to my research responsibilities, I facilitated innovation platforms, bringing together regional stakeholders to collaborate and exchange ideas. This facilitated knowledge sharing and fostered a collaborative environment for agricultural innovation.Throughout my work, I achieved significant milestones, such as successfully scaling up agricultural technologies in the Benishangul Gumuz region and establishing soybean as a major crop. Furthermore, I took on leadership roles within various teams, serving as a member of the research plan and program team, publication and information communication team leader, member of the center ICT development team, and a team member for scaling up activities in Gambella and Benishangul-Gumuz regional states for the RCBP of the World Bank. These experiences allowed me to develop and refine my skills in capacity building, research-extension stakeholder platforms, value chain development, team leadership, planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
