Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)

Jan 2020 - Dec 2023
My current role in leading the commercial operations of the Flintfox group has three main focus areas - people and culture, commercial and enterprise risk. The people and culture role includes a large element of recruitment in North America, Europe and Asia Pac - working with our very talented team and encountering a wide range of people makes this just a blast! I also have the privilege of helping to bring the Flintfox values to life everyday for the team and customers. My commercial legal role is focused on contracting with customers and suppliers all around the world - keeping a weather eye on the big, important commercial issues and trying to keep out of the legal 'weeds'. Chairing our project steering group is a role where I get to bring 35 years of professional experience to bear on the full range of projects/implementations we are involved in. We take an 'enterprise risk' approach to understanding risk inherent in the wider portfolio of projects on the go at any point in time.

Regional Director - Europe
-
Jan 2019 - Dec 2019
In 2019 I spent 12 months running our growing Europe operations. We have a hard-working team with a great group of customers in Europe set to grow significantly in the next 12 months under Mark Conway's leadership. My time in the UK was spent nurturing relationships with customers, leading a major implementation of our solution with Mercury Marine, growing our Microsoft relationship in the UK and building relationships with other partners, building the team and good old fashioned, beating the streets to sell some of the finest enterprise grade rebate and pricing management software that world will ever see! This took me all over Europe from Helsinki to Liverpool, Milan to Leverkusen - quite an adventure for a boy from Masterton. (and just managed to beat Covid home to NZ!)

Private Business Partner
-
Jun 2014 - Jun 2018
As a senior partner in the Private Business team I get to to do two amazing things each day - work with a bunch of very talented young people and help a group of smart, savvy business owners and investors succeed. Oh - and have a lot of fun along the way!

Private Business Leader
-
Jul 2008 - Jun 2014
I had the privilege of leading PwC Private Business team for over 6 years. My move to specialise in private business stemmed mostly from a desire to work closely with people who faced the unique challenges and opportunities associated with running a privately owned business. I focused on building a broad based export economy, and helping tech companies, where I built relationships with some of New Zealand’s most well- known innovators and entrepreneurs.

Tax Partner
-
Jan 1999 - Jul 2008
I was admitted as a Tax Partner in January 1999 and spent almost ten years specialising in advising inbound investors particularly private equity funds. I advised on some of NZ's largest M&A transactions over the period, as well as serving a portfolio of NZ exporters and subs of multinationals. What a ride!

Tax Senior Manager
-
Nov 1994 - Oct 1999
Back from the UK in 1994, with English partner in tow. In the full bloom of love, career going like a rocket - Aaah - the glory years. Moved to Auckland in 1998 - took about two weeks to convert from dyed in the wool Wellingtonian (and spurner of all things Auckland), to becoming a fully ingrained long-macchiato-sipping Aucklander. What a chameleon!

As a dashing young Kiwi bloke about London town, I spent four great years in the UK working with a good mate of mine. Drinking warm beer, and working with some fantastic people and great clients. Met the woman of my dreams and persuaded her to come back to Gods Own Country. Result!

Found myself, quite by accident working for three months on a Danish dairy farm. What a blast! Learning some skills that were never going to be an any real value (ploughing, mulch spreading, etc etc). Carefree days, where you get to spend your whole pay packet on a Saturday night living it up!
