Toronto
For 16 years, I served as the Executive Director of Inside Out, the non-profit charitable organization responsible for producing the annual Toronto LGBT Film Festival. During my tenure, Inside Out grew in size, scope and stature to become the third largest film festival in Toronto and among the top five film festivals of its genre in the world. In addition, the organization has expanded to include touring projects (including an annual four-day festival in Ottawa), educational initiatives and year-round film-based programming. Specifically, during my time as Executive Director, I:• led the year-round operations of the organization including Board management, budgeting and financial reporting, stakeholder relations, human resource supervision and project management;• developed and monitored annual operating budgets that consistently produced year-end surpluses and resulted in the growth of cash revenues from $300,000 to approximately $1.6 million annually;• managed a team of seven full time and 10 part time staff including meeting Employment Standards requirements, negotiating employment contracts, conducting performance reviews and leading conflict resolution processes;• worked with the Board of Directors to strengthen Inside Out's infrastructure through policy development and improved planning processes;• developed and monitored the organization's multi-year strategic plan, working with staff to create annual operating, artistic, communications and fundraising plans;• expanded the organization’s marketing activities to diversify and build new audiences, increasing attendance from 16,000 to more than 35,000;• fostered relationships with cultural organizations, industry and corporate partners, individual donors and funders to promote LGBT cinema and strengthen our communities; and• represented Inside Out on the world stage, serving on festival juries, speaking at panel discussions and conferences and acting as the primary spokesperson with the media.
