    At OURS, we aim to empower and connect communities so that they can thrive in the digital era. The main problem we are solving for is poor data infrastructure and the high cost of data in the global south, particularly in rural and peri -urban areas. How we do this is that we've developed a device that allows you to connect to online content without the use of data.

    During my time at studioMAS I worked on the design of a tech focus private school called Rallim Modern Learning Environment in Suningdale; from concept stage to final completion. The project went on to receive a Regional Commendation from the CIFA Awards

    VPUU (Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading) is a Not for Profit Company that looks at urban, architectural and non architectural solutions to crime prevention. This is done through strategic partnerships and community participation. I worked with VPUU after my undergraduate degree. My job description involved attending site visits and site meetings. Attending and assisting community participation and stakeholders workshops, mapping workshops, mapping on autocad, technical drawings on autocad, building physical models and project management.

    https://www.google.co.za/amp/s/urbannext.net/guga-sthebe-childrens-theatre/amp/The Langa Childrens Theatre Build which was organised by Architecture students from the University of RTWC Aachen in Germany, in collaboration with CS Studio; Heath Nash; World Design Capital Cape Town 2014, UCT and Habitat for Humanity UCT. It was a hugely enriching experience.I learnt a lot about environmental building methods such as reusing old shipping containers, making straw bell walls for insulation and design cladding systems out of recycled materials. I also learnt on site construction methods like welding, digging trenches and painting. Because it was a non-profit project I learnt the value of partnerships and how to make beautiful architecture on a limited budget.

    Through heading the Marketing, Media and Advertising Portfolio and interacting with the other stakeholders in the Habitat management team at UCT, I learnt a lot about innovative ways of fundraising, managing funds within a non profit organisation, basic on site construction skills and social media as a plateform to connect with our volunteers and attracting more members. My Job Description required attending all the builds, keeping a photographic record in order to keeping our memebers updated on all activities taking place in the society and maintaining interest in the cause. I also sourced the design.develop.build project [Langa Children’s Theatre] for Habitat for Humanity to partner up with in order to provide meaningful and regular work for our volunteers.

    During my time at Kay Ann I helped design a shopping centre in collabortation with the architects to create a design that satisfied the architects, developers and my employers (Kay Ann). I also researched and presented a proposal on low income rental housing. Skills gained were communication, presentation and problem solving skills.

My job description was to facilitate the events that formed part of the First Year Experience Orientation Programme and work at the help desk to answer any questions that the first years had.

    As this was my first official work experience in an Architecture firm, the experience put into context what I had learnt in University and allowed me to put into practise the skills I had learnt thus far.I walked away from the experience with a much better understanding of my role as an architecture. Working in a new city (Johannesburg) also expose me to a new culture of work and living. My Job description was working on technical drawings on Revit and Autocad; attending site visits and compiling interior design mood boards for the Rob Ferreira Hospital, in Nelspruit.
