Reporting directly to the CEO, this role focussed on operating at a tactical, strategic and operational level to provide oversight to key projects emerging from Board initatied strategic advice and portfolio scale opportunities and efficiencies. I had the opportunity to work collaboratively across the organisation and take a leadership role in designing, developing and implementic holistic organisational tranformation. For a series of projects, I conceptualised and developed programmatic frameworks covering hypothesis formulation, strategy and execution with detailed analysis of risk/reward and cost/benefit. Once these frameworks were agreed through codesign with key stakeholders, I designed and delivered implementation plans, partnering with business units across the organsiation to influence, execute and govern progress on these projects. A key part of this role was formulating and implementing stakeholder relationship and communication strategies to support the delivery of key strategic and tranformational projects. This ensured that outcomes were responsive to Development Victoria's stakeholder needs and priorities, resulting in the creation and enhancement of value.

    • Director - Sustainability
      • Oct 2020 - Feb 2022

This role gave me the opportunity to work with a broad cross section of the Development Victoria team to create an organisation wide sustainability strategy. The overarching strategy was designed to be relevant for Property Development, Precinct Design and Delivery, Civic Projects and Infrastructure, and Business Operations. The implementation of the strategy focussed on project opportunities across the entire portfolio including residential development, commercial buildings, public buildings, and large urban renewal projects. The strategy identified key strategic actions and priorities aligning with government policy and industry trends to embed sustainability into Development Victoria's existing portfolio, processes and frameworks. They key to creating and implementing the strategy was to develop a deep understanding of how Development Victoria and their stakeholders operate, the mechanisms they had to facilitate change, and the key opportunities for collaboration both in a public and private industry setting. I really enjoyed: -Developing a strategy that focuses on outcomes;-Identifying key strategic objectives and associated implementation and engagement plans;-Developing processes that ensure ideas in design are delivered in reality;-Reviewing the portfolio of projects, identifying key actions, and working with individual project teams to manage the integration of sustainability across all projects;-Consultant procurement, onboarding and management;-Collaborating with key industry bodies;-Developing relationships across local and State Government;-Identification of alternative funding mechanisms for sustainability focused initiatives;-Building a team; and-The support from the Executive Leadership Team, the Board, and teams across the wider organisation.

In this role, I had the pleasure of growing a team of enthusiastic and talented individuals who have a broad range of skills across ESD, Sustainable Building Design, Renewable Energy, Existing Building Upgrades, Building Physics, Green Star, NABERS, Microclimate Analysis, Energy Analysis, Master Planning, Thermal Comfort, Daylight, and Building Envelope Optimisation. As a team, we grew not only our technical skills in these areas, but also our digital tool set. We focussed on technical robustness and efficiency in delivery so that we can spend more time on developing innovative design approaches. We have worked within our multidsiciplinary teams in Melbourne across Buildings, Consulting and Infrastructure to collaborate on a vast array of projects in a large number of sectors to inform more sustainable and more human focused design outcomes. We worked from first principles, designing with technical backing and a people first mentality, and as a result have achieved a number of significant Green Star, NABERS ad WELL ratings. I also spent 12 months in the role of Chair for our Melbourne Community Engagement team.

    • Senior Sustainability Consultant
      • Feb 2014 - Mar 2017

This role required me to draw on my technical ESD and building physics experience, and overlay it with the stakeholder engagement and policy experience I have had through my broader Sustainability work. Many of the projects I worked on required our team to use the technical robustness and building physics data we produced to engage with the wide range of stakeholders on projects to inform the best design outcomes. Many of our projects were a 'first' in the LEED space, including the first LEED Platinum Hospital and the first LEED ND rated Embassy Campus. My role here was to help recruit and then train junior staff. My key goal was to expand the technical robustness of the team around daylight, integrated energy modelling, renewable energy design, thermal comfort, and microclimate analysis, and learn from the team's extensive existing buildings work. We developed a number of optimisation tools and methods for building massing, multi parameter facade design, and a more visually useful PV system design tool that what is available on the market currently. Here, I also performed lead Sustainability role on large scale projects, and acted as a multi disciplinary integrator.

During my time in Singapore, I was fortunate enough to work on project across a broad scale. From Green Mark Platinum buildings that embrace the City Greening ethos of designing within the Singapore built environment, to large scale master plans in Malaysia, and Eden type biodiversity dome projects in northern China. This role was focused on using building physics and data analytics to influence the physical and system design of buildings and to influence the development of policy and future sustainability plans for Singapore. Through projects such as the Office of Estate & Development Building at the National University of Singapore and the South Beach development in the hear of the Singapore CBD, I learned a number of lessons in designing microclimates in the tropics.

    • ESD & Sustainability Consultant
      • Dec 2005 - Jan 2012

This role gave me a technical foundation across the broad range of sustainable design skills and disciplines. I developed a detailed skill set in building physics from first principles, learning not just to model, but to understand the theory that sits behind the key design moves and assumptions to maximise efficiency, balance the quality of the indoor environment and support the architectural design intent of a project. I learned this through working with a number of multidisciplinary teams on energy modelling, daylight modelling, thermal comfort modelling, microclimate modelling, CFD for outdoor comfort, and helping to develop models around the life cycle assessment of building materials. This skills were used from workplace scale to large buildings and masterplans. Through the projects I worked on in this role, I also developed skills around performance optimisation through data analytics and data visualisation. I still use these skills today as a core strategy for communicating the principles of the complex work that we do to a wide variety of stakeholders.
