Basic science research. Studied kinase-mediated signaling pathways using single and double kinase deletion mutants. Also studied septation deletion mutants using various antifungal compounds and compared susceptibility to cell wall perturbing compounds vs non-cell wall perturbing compounds.

Led a team of three junior college students. Students used chemicals with specific perturbing effects on the cell wall of Aspergillus nidulans to uncover protein kinases potentially involved in mediating cell wall repair. This was done via growing wild-type cells and kinase deletion mutants in media infused with chemicals known to affect the cell wall of our organism, and then measuring cell survival.
