Taking Rory as one of our staff VJs to the World Cup in Brazil turned out to be an excellent decision. Working autonomously in Cuiaba, his professionalism and industry provided the platform for some excellent reporting. His tenacity and news sense shone through so, coupled with industry-standard shooting, he consistently delivered excellent diary and off-diary content for the duration of his stay. Rory is growing in stature as a news VJ, and we'll continue to use his skills in the field for Omnisport.

Alex O'Hagan

Rory is an excellent Assistant Producer with sound editorial judgment. Bringing his preexisting knowledge, skills and a keenness to learn, he adapted quickly to meet and exceed what was required of him, becoming an integral part of the newsroom.

I'm that guy who comes up with the crazy-cat ideas for content. Then the client actually likes it so we put it all into action - whether it's a series of articles or a weeks-long video production on location. The lucky clients include Auckland Council, State, AMI and Z Energy and as a team we love helping them with their content marketing. I'm that guy who comes up with the crazy-cat ideas for content. I ran the homepage controls of New Zealand's most-read news and entertainment site. I helped lead a team of digital producers, journalists and writers across New Zealand in order to edit, curate and promote local, national and international content — covering current affairs, business, sport, lifestyle, fashion and travel.

Curating, managing and socialising stories and other content from journalists across the country as well as the world for New Zealand's leading news and entertainment site, Stuff.co.nz. Working across all our sections - National, Politics, Business, Sport, Life & Style and World - I work with our newsrooms and homepage editors country-wide to bring New Zealanders the most entertaining and interesting digital content straight to their desktops, mobiles and tablets by ensuring our stories 'sing' as much as possible - by making them social, sticky, snackable and shareable. At the coal-face of Fairfax's digital evolution, I was responsible for getting out in the field and generating stories with the help of my camera lens, the words I write and also my voice. The visible tools at my disposal were a Canon XF205, a C100, a tripod, an SLR and a notepad, but those less visible were curiosity, inquisitiveness and a knack for visual story-telling. My video packages were scripted and voiced pieces that were edited from scratch and appear on Stuff.co.nz, while my pictures appeared in print across Fairfax's regional and national titles as well as online. Responsible for providing press conferences, features, colour and one-on-one player interviews for the duration of this year's Australian Open. Working closely with the Omnisport team back in London I provided a rapid and efficient service of video packages that were accompanied by helpful news summaries in order to allow the production team to turn around post-match reaction and other video news pieces to worldwide clients as quickly as possible. My commitments were split two-way between: one, working on the Omnisport platform (Perform's global sports news service) and, two, working in the production department on our wide range of prestigious 'viewer-on-demand' products.1. Omnisport: a three-pronged service encompassing Uncut, Ready and the Bulletin.- Uncut: stories are distributed to broadcasters and online publications as 'rough' edits, accompanied by a suggested script and shotlist, allowing clients to construct their own packages and stories. - Ready: polished packages that are delivered straight to platform. They can be found on a myriad of locations online, most notably the ePlayer - the world's largest and fastest-growing viewer-on-demand sports portal.- The Bulletin: a 30-minute, broadcast programme that is delivered to a range of TV clients worldwide, including Bloomberg, SABC, Fox and NBC.On all of the above I worked as an Assistant Producer but frequently stepped up to the role of Producer.2. Production: responsible for an array of sports media products, namely:- Premier League Productions: I script, voice and edit previews, reviews and in-game material for the English Premier League. In addition, I help produce a number of packages for each gameweek, including Goals of the Week, Saves of the Week and Showboat. What is more, I produce preview and review pieces for the Football League, along with the match highlights that appear on the 72 clubs' official websites.- Futbol Latino: still in its pilot stage, I have helped get a weekly, 52-minute highlights show off the ground. The programme is made up of round-ups from every top-flight football league in South America, which I script and edit alongside a production team working out of Uruguay and London.- WTA Productions: responsible for the daily output for every major WTA tour event.- ECB cricket- PDC Darts- Euroleague basketball- Bespoke match action packages for Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco Show less

    • Video Journalist, Omnisport
      • Jan 2014 - Oct 2014

When my rota-ed responsibilities allowed, I frequently stepped in as a video journalist for Omnisport's global sports news service. Recent assignments included coverage of the Euro 2016 qualifying draw in Nice and an exclusive interview with Johnny Wilkinson looking ahead to next year's rugby World Cup.

    • Video Journalist, FIFA World Cup
      • Jan 2014 - Jul 2014

My biggest and most exciting assignment to date, I was posted as a video journalist to Cuiaba to not only cover the matches hosted in the city but to gather a range of features and contextual news stories to tell the story of the tournament in this rather isolated metropolis.Although I didn't want to leave, I couldn't be happier with my three weeks there. I secured exclusive interviews with the chief of judicial police, the state minister for tourism and disgraced mayor of Cuiaba, Mauro Mendes - who has recently been intimated in a corruption scandal amounting to 700 million reais of missing public money. • Mar 2012 - Mar 2014

I co-managed our Premier League news output for Perform's Omnisport division. Working with our newsdesk to gather press conferences and rights-sensitive material, I composed and voiced scripts that I cut to video in order to produce accurate, impartial and informative news stories that appear on the UK ePlayer channel - which can be seen on the online sports pages of a number of major publications, such as The Daily Mail and The Independent.Other responsibilities included 'stepping in' as a producer for the Goal Show; gathering mixed zone interviews from home England internationals at Wembley; UK-centric coverage of Euro 2012 and the London Olympics. Very much a spoke in the wheel of this fantastic video production and design agency. To say I was a Jack of all trades would be a fair observation. I was responsible for the technical and creative aspects of video projects, acting as a shooting producer either on location or in our studio. With my 'Assistant Head of Production' cap on, I managed budgets and personnel and served as a formal point of contact between clients and fellow producers, directors and editors. I am most proud of a project I directed, produced and edited for Trent Bridge in 2011. This culminated in a six-minute video showpiece that the club used to open up their bid to the English Cricket Board, as they successfully bid to host Ashes Tests in 2013 and 2015. My work there has ignited an interest in cinematography, and I have been freelancing for the wonderful Korova Films. Show less
