OGC and ISO/TC 211 formally recognize each others complementary roles in creating spatial standards and are each members of the the other body. Within this context of close collaboration, the JAG has been established to ensure coordination between ISO/TC 211 and the OGC. The harmonization and alignment of specifications and standards from the OGC and ISO/TC 211 is therefore essential to facilitate the development of interoperable geospatial architectures, compliant software and domain data models.

Standards NZ represents NZ's interests at ISO/TC211 Geographic information, and appoints specialists in appropriate disciplines and sectors to ensure NZ needs are met. I am Editor of ISO 19170-1:2021 Geographic information — Discrete Global Grid Systems Specifications — Part 1: Core Reference System and Operations, and Equal Area Earth Reference System which was published in May 2021. As editor of 19170-1, I pioneered the use of automated documentation techniques by extracting UML entity definitions directly from ISO/TC211 Harmonized UML Model into the standards document, and the use of Ribose's Metanorma and asciidoc to create a single source document for both ISO/TC211 19170-1 and it's OGC equivalent OGC AS 21 v2.0.
