Involved in conversion to Artesia Data Systems on the A/S 400 system. Involved in the set up of PC’s in the IBM Token Ring Network for use as workstation emulators and for data transfer to the A/S 400 system. About 1995 I switched from A/S 400 application and system work, to working more with PC’s. I was mainly responsible for diagnosing and repairing PC hardware problems. I have also done extensive work in setting up PC applications, and helping user’s with application problems.

Involved in maintenance and development of accounting, loan and insurance systems. Received a letter of commendation from the Chief Financial Officer for two special programs written for the IBM Personal Computer. These programs used special data compression techniques to allow increased memory use, and modified operating system parameters to allow loading of assembly language routines that ran independently of the operating system. This was accomplished without the aid of the operating system manufacturer. By analyzing the interrupt vector page, I was able to pinpoint the vector that controlled the pointers that defined the total machine memory space. By modifying these pointers I was able to load programs that could be protected from the operating system and then used by any application. Ultimately these routines were used to modify the input of the keyboard to allow programmable keys, which was a feature not allowed by either the hardware or operating system.

Installed Texas Instrument mini computers at nine store sites around the state. Involved in setting up system for point-of-sale, inventory control, and accounting systems. Wrote assembly language input/output routines that allowed COBOL programs to use operating system database functions not supported by COBOL. This involved passing links to the data structures in the COBOL programs to the assembly routines. The assembly routines would then load or unload the data structures with the data requested from the operating system disk routines. Also involved in writing consolidated data base and reports for the IBM System 34 at the home office.I also cracked the encryption used in the password file for the software package the company was using. The software company had to change to a more robust encryption method for the file.
