    I supervise and lead coverage of two Lansing reporters who cover Michigan government and politics as well as one Washington, D.C., reporter who covers the Michigan congressional delegation (14 representatives and 2 senators) and relevant federal agencies on Michigan-related stories. I also oversee the environmental and health reporters.

    I supervised as many as three reporters and as many as six freelance writers who covered economic development, health care, Detroit's casinos, retail, the gas and oil industries, agriculture and big Michigan companies. I also coordinated the weekly Business Insider feature. In 2012, when the non-auto business staff was depleted by promotions and a staffer on book leave, I helped get more than 20 freelance stories on the front page. I oversaw coverage of the Borders bankruptcy that resulted in a 1st place in breaking news award from SABEW.

    I oversaw a loose-knit national organization of opinion page editors who shared best practices and discussed trends in the industry. My terms as president were September 2001 until October 2002 as well as September 2006 to November 2014.The organization was discontinued in November 2014.

    I reviewed manuscripts, edited copy and did other editing tasks at The Public Interest, a quarterly public policy journal originally located in New York City and co-edited by the late Irving Kristol. It subsequently moved to Washington, D.C. and ceased publication in April 2005.
