Emergency Response Finance Manager
-
Oct 2014 - Dec 2014
I was deployed to Iraq as this NGO's emergency response was starting up to help assist people displaced by ISIS (Daash). I inherited $56,000 and IQD2,000,000 in the safe, and was responsible for the entire finance function. The most I paid out in a day was $158,000 for a cash transfer to about 300 families who had lost everything. We spent a lot of time bidding for funding from the EU, the Netherlands, Canada, the USA, and other countries. The largest amount recieved as a result was CAD1,000,000 for water and sanitory health (latrines), but this followed endless co-ordination and budgeting. After I left the INGO went on to supply clothing sourced locally to IDP's as they escaped from Mosul, with needs based grants of $6m at a time.

Bid Coordinator
-
Aug 2014 - Sep 2014
This project encouraged country reps in the field to outline the projects they were going to need funding for. Initially this was anticipated to be about 260 projects in the 50+ countries Tearfund operates in; eventually the final tally was around 480 projects. This played a role in changing the relationship country directors had, as piggy in the middle between funders and recipients.
