    For those of you wondering what is NAGGL, the name stands for the National Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders and it's the SBA 7(a) lender trade association. NAGGL supports lending participants in the SBA’s flagship 7(a) business loan program. SBA 7(a) loans are loans from financial institutions that are guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).After teaching for NAGGL for years, I joined NAGGL in May 2014 and became the Director of Education in April 2021. NAGGL's Education Department focuses on both virtual and in person training as well as answers lender questions via the [email protected] mailbox. We also provide a Fundamental and Advanced Diploma program and exams to lenders to deepen their understanding of SBA program requirements. Besides creating training materials, answering lender questions and work on diploma exams, I continue to teach both virtually and in person for NAGGL. One of the things I love about SBA lending - it's always changing thanks to new SOPs and SBA Notices!

    Besides my part-time work with NAGGL, I also work part-time (remotely from Oregon) with a community bank in Bakersfield. I write policy, procedures, templates, memos, credit memos, and just about everything you could think of that's needed to get an SBA Department busy making loans and staying organized. Working part-time for NAGGL and part-time for Mission helps me stay connected to banking which is valuable for both organizations.
