Provide critical level care to surgical, trauma, and burn patients in order to maintain hemodynamic stability. Promote comfort and pain relief via PCA, epidural insertion/management, continuous infusions, and non-pharmacological education. Assist with bedside procedures including intubation, tracheostomy placement, nasogastric/small bowel/PEG tube insertion, chest tubes, invasive lines (venous and arterial), bolts, EVDs, and traction. Optimize airway via ABG/ScVO2 monitoring, O2 weaning, bronchoscopies, BALs, Flolan/Veletri administration, pronation, and careful use of paralytics with adequate sedation monitoring via BIS and Train of Four utilization. Initiate and maintain MTP as needed. Provide temporary pacemaker management, cardioversion, and defibrillation when necessary. Manage continuous dialysis bedside. Assess and maintain skin integrity to surgical wounds, burns, and infections such as fasciotomies, open abdomens, and necrotizing fasciitis. Initiate post-op care and education to liver/kidney transplant patients. Facilitate organ donations with MTS. Guide patients and their family through the process of withdrawing care while fostering dignity and comfort.
