  • JSW PARADIP TERMINAL PRIVATE LIMITED
    • Kendrapara, Orissa, India
    • Vice President & Head Projects
      • Sep 2019 - Present
      • Kendrapara, Orissa, India

After Railway Project of JDRL put into long term hold due to delays in Rail connectivity projects by Indian Railways, I was transferred to Paradip, Odisha for setting up of Port Projects of JSW as VP & Head Projects, where, we have 2 Projects for setting up of fully Mechanised Terminals under 30 yrs Concession Agreement signed with Port Trust viz., one is 10 MTPA Iron Ore Export & 30 MTPA Coal Export.IOET Project is under operations & has been set up for discharge rate of 100,000 MT PWWD though state of the art Equipment including Stacker cum Reclaimers, Ship Loaders, Wagon Tipplers and about 10 km long 11,000 TPH Conveyor system. While setting up of this project, we faced many challenges including design changes, vendor performances local issues which were typical of Paradip, etc. and the biggest challenge was to complete the 33 km long Railway network within Port. Setting up of this internal railway network, an essential requirement for operation of this Terminal which PPT itself could not complete for last ten years, was taken up by JSW on special request of PPT, was made successfully operational. Since, the Project already delayed so to put it on track and get COD we took some hard decisions and got the work done through other Contractors by invoking Risk Purchase clause of their contracts and got the project completed. The commercial background helped me a lot in steering the project to its completion. The experiences learnt in IOET Project are being extensively being implemented in Coal Project to make it more User Friendly, Versatile, Safe and Cost effective. The Project facilities are comprising of construction of 686 m of Berth face, installation of Stock yard equipment and Ship Loaders, 10 km of 7000 TPH Conveyor system and Track Hopper arrangement with Railway network. To cut the delays, many innovative ideas are being implemented including invoking Risk Purchase clauses against delaying Contractors and the project is being steered towards its COD.
