Completing my seamanship and specialist training for a LARC V amphibious vehicle I served in 35 water transport squadron, 42 transport platoon amphibious until December 1979.I spent 1 year with 3RAR (3rd battalion Royal Australian Infantry) in Adelaide where I learned the skills of an infantry soldier.I was posted to Melbourne Water Transport Unit Jan 1980 to Dec 1982, an Army reserve (ARES) unit and undertook general duties in support of the coxswain of the work-boat and LARC V section. I managed and conducted the unit training of ARES recruits in preparation for their recruit camp training that saw these soldiers returned as fully qualified basic soldiers. I had the honour of representing the Army in the Tri-Service shooting competition in 1981 as a team member on a 4 person team.I was posted to Adelaide in 1983 for honourable discharge in that year.
