    I am the principle chemical engineer in a team developing, supporting and selling a suite of software products for process engineering calculations. I have also developed chemometric software for estimating chemical properties from spectroscopic analysis.I develop and support software for chemical engineering calculations: - calculations and tools for pressure relief calculations based in Excel - physical properties for pure components and mixtures - liquid and low velocity gas flow in a network - high velocity gas flow in a network - liquid, gas or two-phase flow in a pipe - a collection of smaller chemical engineering calculations for fluid flow, heat transfer, vessel calibration, control valve sizing, packed column hydraulics - process data sheet managementI have developed and supported software for chemists: - a program to build models using proprietary techniques to estimate chemical properties from NIR spectra - a graphical tool to implement and flexibly combine various multivariate statistical techniques to analyse spectra and build models for predicting chemical propertiesI have programmed in Visual Basic, Fortran, Java, C/C++, Pascal, LISP, Prolog, HTML, JavaScript, VBScript, PHP.I have developed software with graphical user-interfaces, command-line programs, and applicationswhich use Microsoft Visio and Excel.I provide technical support to users, both in terms of the chemical engineering calculations being implemented and problems with installing Windows software.I run training courses on the use of the software, give sales presentations to potential customers and product update presentations to existing users.I am actively involved in producing business plans and marketing literature for the development and commercialisation of the software.I have drawn up quality assurance procedures to ensure our software development activities comply with the company’s ISO 9001 accreditation.

    I worked in the following areas of projects and consultancy: - Process engineering on projects to decommission a large underground ethylene storage facility, and to recover and store reusable ammonium nitrate effluent. This involved process design, equipment sizing, data sheet preparation, hazard study, pressure relief, hydraulic surge analysis. - Supporting other disciplines with chemical engineering calculations and physical properties data. - Process Simulation: I attended an AspenTech course on the use of Aspen Plus in process simulation and carried out an assessment of my company’s capability in this area. - Discrete-event simulation: I was trained in the use of SIMAN and Arena, and built stochastic models to aid storage and transport planning for large manufacturing processes. - Year 2000 compliance: as an engineering consultant I visited client sites (food manufacturing) to carry out detailed quantified risk assessments of electronic equipment.
