Divisional Accounting Roles

Apr 1982 - Aug 1987
Having spent the years 1976 to 1982 based in London, my DB appointment led me straight in to the Corporate computerisation era, and where I developed my skills in data analysis and systems implementation. Always on the look-out for better ways of doing things, this was one of the most satisfying career periods of my career. The period was one of constant corporate change and re-organisation; the quest for quality - Kaizen

Can't resist including this temporary job doing the investment number crunching and dogsbodying for this exciting Lloyds underwriting syndicate. I couldn't begin to have comprehended the meaning of "high net worth individual" until I landed this one!

Assistant Divisional Accountant

First commercial accounting role. I still recall number-crunching the asset schedules for hundreds of individual soft drink merchandisers around the country all with vast screeds of 14 column worksheets and several pencils and one rubber. At least calculators had been invented by then - but they were over $100 each!Anyone remember Mrs. Brown? She was the credit controller. What a dragon!

Audit Assistant. Hated it. Yearned for commercial role. Too regimented. Don't think I was mature enough for a real job - and I was studying too.But I have to say that despite the negatives, the partner who took me on remains today probably one of my guiding lights as a mentor - and is probably why I am still in the industry.
