This became a stem to stern activity involved extensive travel to export customers, internal and external, as well as supply chain overhaul. This was to move the operation from a cost plus mentality supplying to stock for domestic markets, to a leaner export capable operation focused on meeting customer expectations in terms of delivery, cost reduction, inventory control and quality. A major part of this success involved seeking funding support through available Government programs to engage consultants to assist with an overhaul of the total operation. This process was successful in yielding great benefits in efficiency, cost reduction, effective inventory deployment, lead time reduction and great improvement in delivery on time and in full performance. Product Development Manager
-
1998 - 2003
Management of engineering and product development activities during period of significant growth in product range and acquisitions of additional operations in Australia and US. This brought about the introduction of several significant new product groups not least of which was the Sharkbite push to connect system. The engineering activity underwent far reaching changes in this time with the introduction of 3D CAD modelling capabilities for the use of each individual and breaking down the previous mould of being available only to centralised specialists. This explosion in capability was backed up with the addition of rapid prototyping technologies to allow for rapid exploitation and implementation of outcomes. Team building was also a priority with careful mentoring and training of individuals to allow them to adapt to and realise the full potential of this new environment. This was a time of rapid growth in the breadth and depth of products developed and the opening of greater export markets for Reliance product. This involved much greater engagement with overseas product approval methods and the forging of new relationships on both organisational and personal levels, which endure to the present.
