    My position was Regional Conservator Warden for the Northern Region of Zululand covering 5 magisterial areas , Ingwavuma, Ubombo , Simangdletshe, Nongoma and Hlabisa. I was responsible for the following reserves their staff and management; the Coastal Forest reserve , Lake Sibaya Reserve, Kosi Bay Reserve ,Thembe Elephant Reserve, Manguzi , Ingwavuma and Jozini forest reserves. Ndumu Reserve fell into my orbit at a later stage..I was tasked with ensuring conservation progress in the region and and all the reserves with the cooperation and involvement of the local communities.I was tasked with ensuring the the conservation laws were fairly applied with out favour or discrimination.I had to liase with the local government departments , of KwaZulu and Central Government who worked in the region , the military , the police and the tribal authorities , plus the local and visiting public.I was responsible for the budgets and accounting therefore , the motor vehicle and boat fleet , arranging and conducting and annual helicopter censes of all reserves . Liasion with Natal Parks Board personnel , the NSRI and SA Navy.I planned and introduced a repeater based two way radio system for the whole region , up grading local and regional communications.Administration of the region vis a vis staff , finances ,motor fleet and communication of policies as were necessary.
