I am a disabled citizen, and my upcoming book tells the story of a physically disabled scientist responsible for leaded gasoline and chlorofluorocarbons. This single man made possible the American century -- cars, air conditioning, hairspray, and hundreds of other products -- but also created an environmental nightmare. Leaded gasoline poisoned millions around the world and chlorofluorocarbons blasted a hole in the earth's ozone layer, contributing to climate change.

As a Resident Fellow in the library's Prints and Publication Division, I researched the U.S. government's use of visual media for political outreach and propaganda since 1945. My research included explorations of several newly-opened collections at the Library, including the papers of Dr. Fredric Wertham. I also conducted oral interviews with former policymakers and publishers in the D.C. area. 2004 - 2004
As part of my five-year National Science Foundation Fellowship, I worked in the Nonproliferation Division under Dr. Kory Budlong-Sylvester. I evaluated the future effectiveness of three American nuclear non-proliferation initiatives established by the George W. Bush administration. I also focused on the viability and applicability of unmanned aerial vehicles as nuclear test detectors. My findings provided actionable solutions used to train members of the laboratory nonproliferation division and to appraise the impact of nonproliferation initiatives upon national nuclear policy.
