Designer and fabricator of sterling silver rings, earrings, necklaces, pendants. We purchase semi-precious stones and cloissonne beads at gem shows for making unique jewelry. I maintain our Facebook presence with photographs of the latest pieces off the bench and our show schedule. In 1971 my family learned the craft of silversmithing and we were juried into two major craft groups in Maine, Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen and United Maine Craftsmen. In addition we started and produced The League of Maine Craftsmen annual craft show for over 10 years in Portland Maine. Participation in this show was by invitation only, consisting of the best of Maine's craftspeople and one of the most successful shows held in early November starting the Christmas retail season.Myself, my partner Stanley Ferro and my parents are creating four different styles of sterling silver jewelry and selling at various shows around the Cape Cod area. Our styles range from traditional to contemporary/modern to abstract designs in earrings, pendants and necklaces. Our rings are in sterling silver, either plain heavy gauge wire or set with a variety of semi-precious stones. Our prices are starting at a moderate $5 to $18 for silver rings only and our stone rings start at $18 upwards to $28 depending on the stone and setting. We have specialty one of a kind rings and pendants as well. I handcut and etch stencil on dichroic glass and use the finished fused pieces for elegant pendants. Stanley works also with precious metal clay and we make our own molds from antique buttons and other found items. I am currently adding handcrafted stained glass jewelry boxes to our inventory for upcoming craft shows.I invite you to view (and Like/Follow) our Facebook page as Kaleidoscope Silver & Glass to see the examples of our workmanship and see where our next craft show is.

  • United Craftsmen

    • Show Director
      • Feb 2017 - Jan 2018

After doing craft shows for three years in SW Florida, one main factor stands out. Crafts shows in Florida are not anything like the shows we are used to with the advent of buy/sell vendors being allowed to sell items they did not personally make. Ok...concession time. Promoters need to make a living. I will have my booth at this United Craftsmen show so I'll be taking my chances with the rest of the crowd regarding income for that weekend. Application money goes to the venue, the incidentals (permits, toilets, signage, insurance etc) and key point, advertising. This show is for the crafts people.United Craftsmen is a craft show I am personally producing in January 2018 at Phillippi Estate Park in Sarasota Florida. I am using the same format developed for the League Of Maine Craftsman Annual Christmas show (read the details about that further below in Experience) . I am currently going around to farmer's markets, other craft shows in addition to shows we are in, looking for real craftsmen to invite to participate in this first annual show. The biggest complaint I hear is lack of advertising. I have spoken with two newspapers and the local television station and have been quoted on the rates and schedule. A hefty amount for sure but people from Bradenton, Lake Wood Ranch down to Port Charlotte will hear about United Craftsmen. The major concern voiced from the crafts people is the quality of the shows with the various non-craft made vendors and number of people overloading one craft category. I am offering an invitation to selected crafts people to come to this properly advertised venue to sell truly hand made quality items. We want 40 to 50 crafts people to fill Phillippi Estate Park with the best handcrafted items in various categories. It will be a balanced show, with a wide sampling of styles of any one craft but limited in the number of craftsmen. This will be the craft show people will be hearing and talking about in January 2018.

I design and build the custom ordered work for Brum Art Glass in their shop. We have produced custom leaded stained glass doors, transoms and windows for many of the homes and businesses in Sarasota and out of state. Al and Irene Brum have been in business in the same location for over 25 years on South Tamaimi Trail. Since I joined their studio, I have been able to use my talents to help design, paint and build 9 traditional church windows (4 are located at Christ The King Catholic Church in Sarasota). I have also learned to bevel glass and make advanced lead came glass repairs. I assist Irene with computer questions and do local order processing for cut glass (Brum supplies the glass shops with architectual glass ) while they are away for 3 months. During this time I manage the shop for them and handle customers who come in for door inserts or custom work.Although I no longer work in the shop on a daily basis, I am available to them for specialty projects, continuing my status as an outside vendor.

    • Show Director
      • Jan 1989 - Nov 1996
      • Portland. Maine

Harold and Shirley Wyman began this invitational craft show which was a three day event held annually the second weekend in November beginning back in 1983. The first location was at the Stevens Avenue Armory which was large enough to accommodate 175 craftsmen and later moved next door to the new Beverly Burpee Finley '44 Recreation Center at Westbrook College in 1989 when the Armory closed. The show had a wide range of handcrafted items presented by artists and craftspeople but there was a cap on the number of participants in each category - limited to 5 or 6 of each craft to ensure a well-balanced craft show. My parents retired from running the show and gave it to me to produce starting with the 11th Annual League of Maine Christmas Craft Show. We would search each craft show during the year with the applications to replace the 5 or 8 people who were not able to return and personally speak with the craftsperson to extend the invitation. If there questions about the attendance and quality, we'd refer them to speak with one of the other craftspeople at that show who had been participating in LMC. Their advice was always " don't think about it, just DO IT!" (Rumor was someone had to die in order to get an invitation to an open space in the show as we had many returning craftsmen over the years) We also insisted advertising flyers would be passed out months in advance and we would run heavy advertising schedules on television and in print in the major and local newspapers. All the show fees went into getting the best venue, the best placed and quantity of print advertising, and heavy television advertising. The more people we could bring into the League of Maine Craftsmen show, the more successful the craftspeople would be. The last show we personally ran was in November 1996. The show as we ran it no longer exists with a change of name, criteria for participation and move to Wells ME.

    • Co-Owner
      • Oct 1989 - May 1996
      • U S Route One, Scarborough ME

My late husband John Daley and myself had a retail shop on Route One by the Scarborough Marsh that featured Maine handcrafts. We featured photography, sterling silver jewelry, our stained glass lamps, planters, mirrors and panels, tatted (a form of lacework) items, dolls, various styles of pottery, fused decorated glassware and much more. Many of the items were made by craftsmen who were selected from the 'by invitation only' League of Maine Craftsmen. It was also our studio for doing commission work and later expanded into retailing stained glass sheets and supplies. We also taught the craft of stained glass 4 evenings a week with up to 9 students an evening receiving personal instruction over the 3 hours/ 8 week class. The shop was closed when John was diagnosed with cancer in November 2002.

    • Accounting Assistant
      • Aug 1987 - Aug 1995

I was the accountant's assistant processing the station's payables for payment and entering the account receivables. I also did the billing, producing customer's air time invoices and completing co-op advertising affidavits, statements and mailing duties. Occasionally acted as receptionist and typed advertising copy for in-house production. I also did promotional artwork and signage for client remote broadcasts and station use.

    • Accounting Assistant/Credit Manager
      • May 1984 - Aug 1987

I was the accountant's assistant processing the station's payables for payment and entering the account receivables. I also did the billing, producing customer's air time invoices and completing co-op advertising affidavits, statements and mailing duties. As Credit Manager, I was responsible for processing credit applications and collection calls. Occasionally I provided themed table showcard displays for remote broadcasts at client's locations when requested by the sales staff.

    • Accounts Payable / Cost Accounting
      • Apr 1977 - May 1984
      • Portland, Maine

My position as accounts payable clerk had me responsible for processing invoices for 38 Valle's Steak Houses located from Maine to Florida. Also I maintained the fish inventory in storage in Newton, Mass. that was distributed throughout the entire chain. I was moved into cost accounting to further my understanding of restaurant accounting and produced prices sheets for inventory lists, end of month journal entries and complied the trial balance for the company. I returned to accounts payable as an assistant supervisor to monitor the processing and also began data entry of the invoice voucher tickets and required food usage reports into the computer for payment and cost accounting analysis. It was unfortunate this job ended with the onset of the gas crisis and the death of the founder, Donald Valle. The state of Maine afterwards changed the inheritance tax requirements but not before the cost of the taxes forced the company out of business putting longtime (30 years plus)employees out of their jobs.
