Mini Pupilage
-
Feb 2024 - Feb 2024
-
London, England, United Kingdom
I was fortunate enough to undertake this mini pupillage at 9 Bedford Row Chambers with Max Hardy, Sean Sullivan and Alex Krikler. Whilst with Max Hardy in Snaresbrook Crown Court, I witnessed the cross examinations, examinations in chief aswell as the verdict. I was also fortunate enough to gain experience with Sean Sullivan and Alex Krikler, who were prosecuting and defending the same case. This case was a historic sexual abuse case in Wood Green Crown Court. This case was one that was particularly sensitive as it involved the rape of a boy aged 3-4 by a family member. This case offered a great insight into cross examinations of witnesses as well as examination in chief. This case was particularly interesting as I also attended meetings with the defendant in the cells with Alex Krikler. Throughout the week I was also taking notes on behalf of the barristers, with the barristers using these in speeches and cross examinations. I was told that my thorough note was particularly useful and well written.

Continuing on from this I have assisted in a large human trafficking case where I had to work through all evidence including witness statements and summarise them for ease of use for Mr Mohindru. This is a role I continue in flexibly to this day.

I undertook a mini pupilage at New Bailey Chambers in Liverpool where I shadowed Mr Andrew Sinker. I attended Liverpool Magistrates Court on all three days; getting a vast breadth of experience. This branched from Dangerous Dogs out of control, to drink driving as well as others. I gained a wealth of knowledge whilst undertaking this, and took every possible moment to learn from Mr Sinker, and the court in which I was based.

I worked at The Hammond School in Chester, UK. As a residential boarding tutor, I acted as a ‘big brother’ figure to 11-17-year-old children, encouraging them to make the right decisions whether academic or outside of school. As part of my role, I do wake ups, conduct room checks, administer medication, supervise students to and from appointments, manage lunch and dinner duties and complete washing in house. I am a strong member of the boarding staff team who is reliable, thorough, consistent in my approach and very approachable. It taught me many useful traits such as a skill with conflict resolution, extensive skills in organisation, as well as adding to my personability.

This included, directing traffic, showing members of the public on how to administer a Covid test and ensuring that results were processed in the correct format. This was all carried out in a high-pressure environment, having to ensure I was empathetic towards highly emotional members of the public, albeit in a professional manner whilst adhering to government guidelines.
