Furman University Fellow
-
May 2018 - Aug 2018
I created my own fellowship as part of my Capstone requirement for my B.S. in Public Health. I spent half of the summer working under Dr. Hudson, who at the time was the head of the Office of Human Research Protections at Greenville Memorial Hospital, and the other half working with Dr. Fair for the non-profit, LiveWell Greenville, whose mission is to advance equitable access to healthy eating and active living for every Greenville county resident. Under Dr. Hudson, I attended bi-monthly Institutional Review Board committee meetings, conducted literature reviews on the research ethics surrounding biorepositories, and utilized that information to aid in organizing an event to education staff and faculty of Greenville Memorial Hospital on the ethics, regulations, and protections of human subjects and biorepositories. With LiveWell Greenville, I applied my skills and submitted an approve IRB application for a childhood obesity study and participating in data collection of food waste at four sites for a local Summer Food Service Program evaluation study.
