Thammasat Volunteer Center (TVC) was established in 2007 in order to prepare new generation of Thammasat students to become an active citizen in local and global level. It is the first university volunteer center in Thailand. TVC promotes student engagement in volunteering and community services. It also supports faculties establishing service learning programs so that students will learn how to apply their knowledge and skill for solving public issues. By those means students will become contributing and responsible citizens to society. Currently, curriculums such as contemporary community development, development studies, CSR and Social Enterprise management and volunteer management are available for higher education students, government and business sectors. The intention of the TUVC is to create opportunities for students to learn from their society, while at the same time contributing to it and to the community in a concrete and useful way. The students are encouraged to use their knowledge to provide support to the community and it is part of the students’ learning process, to become social responsible citizens, to see themselves as part of the solution. Through the center, Thammasat University hopes to train Thailand future leaders, who are socially responsible and who understand the value of volunteerism.

As of the tsunami tragedy incident in 2004, , stronger cooperation from various organizations was brought to reality. it has revived the volunteering and giving in society. Numbers of organizations are now realizing the importance of volunteerism and are attempting to practice voluntary activities in more tangible and systematic manners. it comes to an agreement to form an alliance of those groups and individuals who determine to enhance and sustain the volunteerism in Thai society. This cooperation is titled as “Volunteer Spirit Network”. VSN aims to initiate an enabling environment for volunteering in Thailand so that civil society organiztions and citizens can more effectively participate in sustainable social development. We focus on three pillars of a successful volunteer sector. The first pillar is helping the organizations, advocacy groups and services which seek to mobilize volunteers to do so as effectively and meaningfully as possible. The second pillar is contributing to an environment which facilitates and maximizes volunteer engagements. We have provided training for volunteer engagement in order to help organizations building expertise to manage and utilize volunteers effectively and inclusively. We also work across sectors and involves in many levels. We collaborate across government sectors, NGOs, education and business sectors to provide services such as volunteer manager capacity building, volunteer program development, community assessment and evaluation as well as civic engagement learning package. The third pillar is inspiring more of Thailand’s citizens to recognize their social capital and to direct it into supporting sustainable development. For national level, we are a part of National Commission on Volunteering Promotion under Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and substantially advocated to National Volunteer Center.
