I work for the City of Cleveland, Department of Community Development. I manage a series of programs funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the City of Cleveland. The programs provide major health and safety home repairs and lead remediation to the homes of low to moderate income City of Cleveland residents. We also provide programs targeted for very low income seniors and residents with disabilities. I manage a team of Financial Counselors and Intake Specialists who determine applicant eligibility and a team of inspectors who evaluate the condition of homes and write specifications for our pool of contractors to follow when making the needed improvements to the homes we service. Through these programs, residents receive federally funded grants and in some cases, loans to improve the health and safety of their homes.

      • Apr 2016 - Oct 2021

Manager of programs funded by the Department of Housing & Urban Development that provide grants for home repair and health and safety remediation for low income seniors and disabled residents of the City of Cleveland. I also manage a program that provides 1% - 3% low interest home rehabilitation loans up to $80,000 to City of Cleveland residents whose income is at or below 80% of AMI. These loans are for the improvement of their primary residence. The goal of each of these programs is to provide funding and services to address critical home repair and health and safety needs.

    • Program Manager
      • Nov 2009 - Mar 2016

I managed an large ARRA funded energy efficiency program. The program was funded by the Department of Energy, Department of Health & Human Services and the State of Ohio through a competitive bid and award process. Under my leadership, the City of Cleveland was awarded and expended $32 million. The program serves low income, seniors and disabled residents throughout Cuyahoga county. The primary objectives are to lower residential energy consumption, decrease energy bills and educate residents on energy efficiency and sustainability. The team performs energy audits and creates specifications to retro-fit homes. The audits identify and prioritize measures specific to each home, making the greatest impact on energy consumption. Private, state trained contractors perform the work. With an average grant of $7,000 per family, our work lowers energy bills, allowing low income families to retain more of their dollars for other spending and savings. Through this program jobs have been retained and created, thereby stimulating the economy.

Chief Administrative Officer and Senior Vice President of Marsh & McClennan, a global Fortune 500 Corporation. Marsh is the largest risk management and employee benefit consulting firm in the world. I was responsible for Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology Systems and Professional Development for the Midwest Region (one fourth of the United States), which included Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Kansas. I am grateful for the opportunities I was afforded during my 30 year career with this organization. I thank Robert Roach, Treasurer of the Cleveland operation. He hired me as an accounting clerk. At the time, I was a recent Glenville High School graduate, attending college in the evenings, working on my Bachelor's degree in accounting, Peter A. Bergsten who shortly thereafter, relocated to Cleveland from Minneapolis to become President of the Cleveland operation, Dan W. Hamilton who also moved to Cleveland from Minneapolis to become Executive Vice President of the Cleveland operation and finally James B. Meathe who became the next President of the Cleveland operation and the Midwest Region. Each of them provided opportunities to me and opened doors that allowed me to excel and grow professionally, which allowed me to broadly impact the organization.
