      The past represents much more than highlights of a living scrapbook. Rather, memories of past episodes – negative and positive – reflect current perspectives of ourselves even as we change. Fifty life stories (including twelve global accounts) illustrate this process in my forthcoming book, "Memories to Momentum: Stories of Looking Back, Living Forward." The stories appear verbatim (edited for length). They update the classic personal story that once mesmerized humans around campfires. With each voice conveying a unique tone, style, pathos, and sparkle – in addition to various locations and cultures – you'll sample the diversity of mankind while also discovering unifying themes. A key theme: people naturally extract meaning from their memories. It and other themes are elaborated in a brief conclusion that interweaves academic research with examples from the stories. As you'll see, unexpected challenges and delights may demand that original meanings are altered, reversed, or enhanced.
