    I was a Sanlam consultant contracted to the University of Cape Town’s Actuarial Science Section, which is located in the School of Management Studies of the Commerce Faculty. My role was to provide on-going support and guidance (through one-on-one and group sessions) to the Actuarial Science students from first year through to final year of study. In addition to the supportive role for the students, I also served as a link in the communication chain between the students and academic staff, as well as providing input to the academic staff utilising information obtained from the students’ experiences, and assisting with the planning and execution of various strategic student-centred workshops and initiatives.

Duties include employment assessments, report writing (loss of earnings, loss of support and medical negligence claims), editing reports, career progression projections, industry research iro job roles and commensurate remuneration, as well as reference checks with previous employers and site visits where necessary. Required to remain up to date with latest remuneration scales and surveys for career postulation purposes, i.e. various Bargaining Council wage tables, Government Gazetted wages, the Quantum Yearbook, P-E Corporate Salary Surveys, etc.
